That’s What Christmas Is All About, Charlie Brown

I’m so glad it’s Christmas! But if I’m honest, it can be really easy to forget what Christmas is all about. I want to thank you church, and especially our choir, children, students, musicians and so many others who took part in our churchwide Christmas program on December 8. You helped to remind me what Christmas is all about, just as Linus did for his good friend in one of my favorite Christmas movies of all time—A Charlie Brown Christmas.

Charlie Brown: “Isn’t there anyone who knows what Christmas is all about?”

Linus: “Sure, Charlie Brown, I can tell you what Christmas is all about.”

[Linus walks to center stage.]

“Lights, please.”

And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.

And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.

And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.”

[Linus picks up his blanket and shuffles off-stage.]

This year as you read the story and sing the songs (and eat all the yummy goodies), take time to remember what Christmas is all about, and share it with a friend too. And while you’re at it, take 30 minutes to watch “A Charlie Brown Christmas,” or at least go and listen to the soundtrack, it’s great!
