No one would doubt that we live in troublesome times. Political division, deadly hurricanes, surging crime, economic downturn, gender confusion, family breakdown, addiction epidemic- you get it! Yet, these very troubling circumstances can provide opportunities to display and discuss the hope we share in our Christian faith. One characteristic that should mark the Christian is peace. Conversations can lend themselves to the One who gives peace.

Consider some of God’s promises concerning peace. Slow down, take a rest, read, and meditate on these biblical passages. Ask God to enable you to experience peace in these troubling days and to give you courage to share the reason for your peace.

Psalm 4:8 In peace I will both lie down and sleep; for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.

Psalm 119:165 Great peace have those who love your law; nothing can make them stumble.

Isaiah 54:10 For the mountains may depart and the hills be removed, but my steadfast love shall not depart from you, and my covenant of peace shall not be removed,” says the Lord, who has compassion on you.

Romans 5:1 Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Isaiah 26:3 You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.

John 14:27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.

John 16:33 I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”

Romans 15:13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.

Philippians 4:7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

2 Thessalonians 3:16 Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times in every way. The Lord be with you all.
