Who has not made them? Exercise regularly, eat healthier, sleep more, and the list continues! If you have been a part of Woolsey Baptist Church for any amount of time, you likely have heard the challenge to memorize Scripture.
As you consider your list of 2021 resolutions, I encourage you to add this one: Scripture memorization. And as you do so, take a moment to read Pastor Chuck’s challenge to the church family (you will find this same note inside the cover of the 2021 Scripture Memory booklets).
Dear Church Family,
You are holding a booklet containing 52 biblical passages. You are encouraged to try to commit these verses to memory. Here are some benefits of the discipline of Scripture memory.
- You will grow spiritually. Jesus said in John 17:17, Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth. God’s Word is truth and truth enters through our minds.
- You will pray better. As you memorize biblical passages, these very passages will often come to mind as you pray; and will guide your praying.
- You can comfort and challenge other Christians. Conversations often present a time to comfort a hurting Christian as well as challenge a Christian that may have begun to stray from the Lord or embrace lies from the enemy. Scripture memory provides a deep reservoir of sound doctrine to draw from in such conversations.
- You are better equipped for evangelism. Jesus said in John 8:32, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. Those enslaved to their sins need the liberating truth of God’s Word to show the way to freedom. Scripture you have memorized will often come to your mind in gospel conversations.
Scripture memory will take hard work. Memorization does not come easily but the rewards far exceed the effort.
We can do this together.
Let’s get to memorizing!
