Woolsey Baptist Church was first constituted on August 26, 1888 with 23 charter members in a small country store at Woolsey, Georgia. The first pastor was Dr. I.G. Woolsey, a medical doctor who was also a farmer and landowner. During his eight years as pastor, a church building was constructed and dedicated to the Lord God in March 1889.
Originally named Harmony Grove Missionary Baptist Church, the name was then changed to Woolsey Baptist Church on October 2, 1904. Between the first pastor, Dr. I.G. Woolsey, and the current pastor, Chuck Chambers, who began his ministry here on September 8, 1987, over thirty godly men have occupied the pulpit. The church underwent several remodeling programs over the years to accommodate its expanding growth.
In May 1996, Woolsey Baptist Church relocated to our present location in a new, all-purpose building. In April 2000, an additional twenty seven acres and house were purchased adjacent to the present property. Phase Two, consisting of an educational wing, was completed in 2002. The McLean Building, houses our church offices, activities room/class room area, resource room, and seven classrooms.
God has blessed this church over the years in so many ways, the greatest blessing being those that have come to faith in Jesus Christ. We believe our greatest days are still ahead!
